Root Canal Treatment

Whether you’re nervous about getting a root canal treatment, or not sure if you need one, why not discuss it with us?

Sometimes an injury such as a  blow, or a crack in the tooth can damage the living tissue inside a tooth but the most common cause is tooth decay which allows harmful bacteria to break through the outer shell of your tooth and create a cavity. If not stopped, the decay will continue toward the nerve of the tooth causing irreversible inflammation in the pulp, which then becomes non-vital. If left untreated, it will most probably result in an infection or abscess inside your tooth.  If the abscess is left untreated, you may experience severe discomfort and the infection could spread to the surrounding bone.

The dentist will test the tooth to see how bad the damage is and if necessary will gain access through the crown to take out the diseased pulp. The root canal treatment will then be permanently filled with compatible material so that the tooth can be restored and extraction can be avoided.

Root Canal Treatment

During endodontic root canal treatment the pulp tissues are removed. Root canal treatment are a great way of saving teeth otherwise doomed for extraction.  Teeth that are badly decayed or infected can be saved and provide many years of function and preserve your smile. Many times, if not most, a crown may be required to strengthen the tooth structure, which is lost during a root canal treatment.
